Last Chance U

Last Chance U is a Netflix docuseries that followed the East Mississippi Community College Lions during the 2015 football season. While the series included game footage and analysis, the series focused on the lives of the players, coaches, and staff members affiliated with the program. The intersections of academics and athletics were complicated by the identities and experiences of players, particularly as they related to race, poverty, and masculinity. While the series does a good job of surfacing these topics, it does little to critically examine them.
