Abstract :
Malik Gaines’s Black Performance on the Outskirts of the Left: A History of the Impossible is an interdisciplinary book that will appeal to scholars interested in theories of blackness, queer black radicalism, and the transgressive performances of American singer and activist Nina Simone, Ghanaian playwrights Efua Sutherland and Ama Ata Aidoo, Afro-German actor Günther Kaufmann, and the Cockettes, a San Francisco drag troupe.
