Abstract
The author describes the recent research activities of the LACTAMME laboratory in the field of audiovisual communication. He outlines both the applications and capabilities of the SMC system, a system that combines data processing with audiovisual techniques. After examining how the computer can be used as a new (meta-) tool for artistic creation, he notes certain practical considerations.
