The televised competition for the Bachmann Preis invites the public to observe all stages of an award decision, including the deliberations of the jury. The public jury deliberations reveal a number of basic principles that are representative of juried awards in general, such as the process by which individual reading preferences and judgments of taste are amalgamated into a collective verdict on an award winner.
