The following bibliography includes selected books, dissertations, theses, and articles about West Virginia's history that were published during 2007 and 2008. The wide variety of topics and the assorted approaches to historical documentation reflected in this listing indicate that interest in preserving West Virginia's history through publication remains strong.

My intent is to assemble a bibliography of readily accessible works that provide insights into the state's past and present and that expand the availability of documentation for the study of the heritage, culture, and lifeways of West Virginians. The persistent fascination of West Virginians with their own history is evident in the appeal of the state's popular periodicals and historical fiction as well as works on wider historical topics. These are interesting and compelling but too abundant to include here. Many of the state's genealogical and local history organizations support active publishing programs, and their books and journals are likewise too numerous for inclusion.

If you are aware of any recent book or article on West Virginia's history that is not listed here, I would appreciate your effort in bringing it to my attention.
