Sir, – There must be many people who appreciate the great work which Dr. Francis Underhill, the Dean of Rochester, has done for the Church of England, and many who remember his ministry in Birmingham, Oxford, and in London.
We therefore feel that we should not like this opportunity of his forthcoming consecration as Bishop of Bath and Wells to pass by unmarked.
It is proposed that our recognition of this event should take the form of a pastoral staff which can be used when he travels about his diocese.
