The two blocks of public toilet demonstrate simplicity of the design and illustrate the possibilities for environmenta l control . LOCATION This is a rural sit e next t o th e P o Lin Monastery an d the Buddh a Statu e o n Lanta u Islan d o n Ngon g Pin g Road. I n this location , vernacula r principle s ar e use d to derive the buildin g enclosur e a s well as to monito r the interior environment . an opening at high level allowing diffused lightin g an d natural cros s ventilation . For construction materials , steel I-beams ar e used to support the elevated roof instead of traditional timber brackets. But clay tiles form th e roof finis h t o provid e the rural character. The external wal l i s finished wit h simple spray paint o n rendering. Reinforce d concret e columns are chiselled fairface concrete . Slate tiles for m the finish for the dado. A natural look is achieved using simple materials. COMMENTS ENCLOSURE This is a one-storey building ; the design of the roof i s therefore a majo r consideratio n fo r th e buildin g enclosure. T o allo w ligh t penetratio n an d natura l ventilation, an elevated pitched roof is used. This creates A small project can exploit grand concepts.
