About the Author dr. kate tulenko is a globally recognized expert in the field of health labor markets and health workforce planning and management. She serves as director for clinical services and service delivery strengthening at IntraHealth International, a global health nonprofit organization that for thirty years has worked to strengthen health workers, and the systems that support them, in developing countries. She previously coordinated the World Bank’s Africa Health Workforce Program, which conducted research and funded programs to help African countries train and retain health workers. She has served on expert panels for the World Health Organization, the Rockefeller Foundation, the US Agency for International Development, the Global Health Workforce Alliance, and the African Union. Dr. Tulenko has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Harvard University; a master’s degree in the history and philosophy of science from the University of Cambridge; an MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; and a master’s of public health degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She is a board-certified pediatrician and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Global Business School Network and has received a Rainer Arnhold Fellowship for innovation in global development .
