xi Acknowledgments First and foremost, I wish to thank the translators whose work appears in this anthology. Too often translators of poetry are not acknowledged or appreciated as they deserve to be. With that in mind, dear reader, I wish to bring these gifted individuals to your attention and note that without their talent and dedication we would not be able to enjoy the beauty and power of the poems in this anthology. I have provided the biographies of the translators at the end of the collection so you can get to know who they are. I would like to extend wholehearted thanks to Dan Veach, publisher of the Atlanta Review, and to Martha Bates, acquisitions editor at the Michigan State University Press, for believing in the importance of this anthology and inspiring me to forge ahead to its completion.
