225 Literature and References The following is a comprehensive bibliography listing all of the general references, textbooks, reports, articles, and technical papers that were used in the preparation of this book. All references that are cited in the text have been included, as well as many that were not directly cited but are nevertheless of importance to the study of Texas bats. The bibliography is divided into three sections: (1) general references; (2) mammalian species; and (3) technical papers. General works include textbooks about bats, comprehensive guides to the mammalian fauna of geographical or political regions within and adjacent to Texas, general texts on mammalogy, and other bibliographies relevant to Texas bats. As this is not a comprehensive list of these types of publications, they and others are included in the technical papers section. The Mammalian Species series consists of comprehensive summaries of knowledge about individual species of mammals. These accounts are published by the American Society of Mammalogists and contain the most current and complete information and references available on the respective species. All Mammalian Species accounts that are available for Texas bats have been included in this section and are highly recommended as a good starting point for further study of specific Texas bats. The section on technical papers is the most extensive and includes all documented records and studies of Texas bats, as well as numerous references on bats from other parts of the United States and from Mexico that are useful in the study of Texas bats.
