bibliography || 335 335 An Annotated Bibliography of Julio C. Tello An Account of His Rise to Prominence in Peruvian Archaeology richard e. daggett and richard l. burger the year following his death, three bibliographies were published for Julio C. Tello. Two are directly attributable to Julio Espejo Núñez (1948a, b), while a third may be indirectly attributed to him (Lothrop 1948, 54, n.7). Though representing a single source, these three bibliographies reflect numerous inconsistencies, and they each contain errors of commission and omission. The present work strives to correct these problems. In addition, the three original bibliographies were found to have included anonymous articles, which, for the most part, were either reports based upon interviews with Tello or were reports on public presentations made by Tello. Though not commonly included in bibliographies, these sources have been retained in the present work because they represent a unique resource representing Tello’s views on diverse matters. In this regard, other such articles, culled by the principal author from the Lima daily El Comercio, have been included as well. An attempt has been made to note the existence of republications of particular works and to note any inconsistencies that may exist between these republications and the originals. Secondary publications by Tello are fully cited following the original, while such publications by others are fully cited at the end of this work. Finally, included at the end of this bibliography are works published subsequent to 1947. These publications, the earliest undertaken by Toribio Mejía Xesspe (1956–1979) and more recently by Ruth Shady Solís and Pedro Novoa Bellota (1999–2002) and most recently by Virgilio Freddy Cabanillas Delgadillo (2004), Harold Hernández Lefrane (2005), and Rafael Vega-Centeno Sara-Lafosse (2005), are based on the Tello Archive at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima.
