xv Primary research for this study took place between 2004 and 2010 with fortyseven first-person interviews. Participants included ELAM students, graduates, teachers, and administrators, members of MINSAP and MINREX, and villagers in rural Ecuador. I also collected interview data through multiple field site visits coordinated through MEDICC. Multiple method research was used for interviews, but data tended to weigh heavily on the use of descriptive analysis by participants. Open-ended interviews took place using a semi-structured interview guide that was given to each group of participants. The goal of the methodology sought multiple perspectives of Cuban medical internationalism by those who participated in it and those who were affected by it.
