The Communitarian Stance Loyalty to the Community This stance is closest to what is typically known as social ethics. Communitarian ethics places a major emphasis on the idea of democracy, is committed to public conversation and cooperation, and seeks consensus. This is an ethics of the common good; whatever is ethical supports and expands the community. Thinkers who promote communitarian ethics express this communal concern in different ways: Confucius stresses family and group loyalty and following community rituals.
