In the Chronicle of Higher Education, Robert Zemsky described himself as someone “old and round enough to be mistaken for a pooh-bah.” In his forty-year career he has proved to be a major commentator on the future of both American and global higher education. He has pioneered the use of market analyses for higher education, served as the University of Pennsylvania’s chief planning officer, and was the founding director of Penn’s Institute for Research on Higher Education. He has also served as the convener of the Pew Higher Education Roundtable, as chair of the Learning Alliance, and as a member of the U.S. Secretary of Education’s Commission on the Future of Higher Education.
