Chap-rer 3 Ghost"ly, Unnatural Sounds 1. "The Hearrbearn There was an experience that happened to me back around 1973. Mom and Dad, Granddad, and I had moved into a house that belongs to Harry Richardson. This house is in Irvington on U.S. 60, real close to the Irvington Drive-in.This house belonged at one time to two brothers, Bob and Emmitt Smith. They lived there in the early 1900s before the addition to the house was built on, when it was only a cabin. Emmitt Smith's room was upstairs, and Bob's room was downstairs. In the process of their living together, and in the process of the passage of time, Bob met Gladys Spink and fell in love with her and married her. For some reason or another, Gladys didn't like Emmitt at all. Emmitt had heart problems and was on medication. And he always kept his heart medicine on a table setting right next to his bed. Well, one day, Bob had to go to town. He told Gladys that he had to go to town, and for her to keep an eye on Emmitt. Emmitt was upstairs. Well, while Bob was gone, she went upstairs when Emmit was asleep. She took his heart medicine and went downstairs and locked the door going up to his room. So, when he woke up, he needed his heart medicine and reached over for it. Ofcourse, it wasn't there. So he came down the steps to see if Gladys knew anything about it, but when he came to the door he couldn't get out. He knocked on it, banged, and tried to get the door open, but couldn't. When she didn't hear anything out ofhim in a few minutes, she went back up there and found him laying across the bed dead. Well, she positioned him just like he died in his sleep, and put his heart medicine back on the table, went back downstairs, and dosed the door but didn't lock it. When Bob came home, he asked her if she heard anything out of Emmitt. She said, "No, everything has been quiet." He said, "Well, 1 abetter go up there and check on him." When he went upstairs to check on his brother, he found him dead. He came downstairs and told her. She said, "Well, I don't understand that." He said, "Well, I don't either. His heart medicine was setting right there. So I guess it was just his time." And we didn't know all this when we moved there, didn't know that anything was wrong with the house. The very night that we moved there that day, it got dark and we still hadn't unloaded and unboxed everything , but we had put up our beds. Well, I had a room, and Mom and Dad had a room. This house had a bathroom in it. Granddad had a room next to the kitchen. I was in my room getting ready for bed around eleven o'clock. I heard something but didn't know what it was. I listened and it started offreal faint, sounded like a heartbeat. The more I listened to it, the louder it got. Sounded just exactly like a heartbeat. Well, I thought I don't want to be the only one hearing this, so I went there to get Mom and Dad up. Dad wouldn't wake up, but Mom got up and come in there to listen and she heard it, too. I asked her, "What does that sound like to you?" She said, "It sounds like a heartbeat, doesn't it?" It was shaking the whole house. Sounded just like it was going to explode the whole house.
