The list incorporates the titles on which this study is based. It also includes novels cited in the text, some of which appeared after 2000. It is not a complete list of all of the crime fiction novels that use the Middle East for plot, location, or character, because it is virtually impossible to identify all of the titles. There is no systematic, comprehensive bibliographic control for pulp fiction and paperback originals. Standard bibliographies, while indexed, do not provide enough detail to enable the user to locate all specific titles related to the Middle East. I have relied on Allen J. Hubin ’s Crime Fiction 1749–1980 and the supplements and editions of Myron J. Smith, Jr.’s Cloak and Dagger Fiction and various internet search engines in addition to my own idiosyncratic perusal of library and bookstore shelves. I have also included only those books that I was able to examine. There are some paperback titles that I identified, but because they were inaccessible, they are not included on this list. The more than 800 crime fiction titles published during the twentieth century is the sample upon which this book is based.
