Editor’s Foreword The present volume comprises part of a lecture course that was announced for the 1944/1945 Winter Semester in Freiburg as an introduction to philosophy, under the title “Thinking and Poetizing.” The lecture course had to be cancelled after the second session as a result of an intrusion from the National Socialist Party in the middle of November 1944. This was also Heidegger’s last academic lecture as an official tenured professor .
