45 on friday may 29, thousands of protesters came together at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, in an action against the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, and the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and Breonna Taylor, among many others. The protests continued for several nights, with clashes between the police and the protesters erupting into violence. Alex Golshani, an Iranian­born, US­raised photographer, was there, and documented the events. “While out in the field I’m looking for moments to tell the story,” he told The Yale Review by email. He has been photographing pro­ tests since Occupy Wall Street—the first major collective action to take place after he arrived in New York from Los Angeles, where he was raised. “These protests were different from the post­election protests,” he noted. “It’s more dangerous now.
