On the Study of Tang Literature

Beginning with consideration of both terms of the phrase “Tang literature,” which is hardly a transparent or trouble-free notion and demands scrutiny, a survey of recent Western-language explorations of the Tang world is offered. Discussion includes the aims and requirements of textual research across disciplines, with focus on significant challenges both in subject matter and scholarly method that currently face us.
