Abstract

Abstract:

"Dog Years" is a record of the author's communist father's crumbling after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Focused on how political transitions require people to restructure their lives, she narrates her family's survival through the economic crisis of 1980s and 1990s in Upper Silesia, the formerly German, industrial region of Poland. Her father overcomes his depression thanks to a relationship with a dog left by our gate.
