Aspiration, meaning not much otherthan to breathe, so the pitcher is breathingon a dune in the clearing of the faithful& holding the world accountable to beas ambitious as Jacob, the original, whoafter disentangling himself from an angelwoke up injured only by the sound ofhis own name being spoken over the loud-speaker& into the cheering Canaan of We,Flushing Meadows, where figures withsatin numbers on their backs are swingingdeadwood, planting their cleats in the clearingof the faithful & gathering their personal effectsone by one by one, before, dejected, theysomehow manage to retake the field in theholy delirium of certainty, & so he is, breathing.
