In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • A Note from the Editors
  • Peter Lurie and Theresa M. Towner

We are pleased and honored to have become Co-Editors of The Faulkner Journal, and we take up these positions with gratitude for the editors who have come before us: John T. Matthews, James B. Carothers, Susan V. Donaldson, Joseph R. Urgo, Martin Kreiswirth, and the editors of the many and varied special issues over the years. The Journal has greatly benefitted from the managing editorships of Tod Oliver and Dawn Trouard, and its special benefactor was Noel Polk. We will do our best to maintain the high scholarly standards and inclusive topics set by our predecessors, and we thank them for the fine examples they have set.

This issue marks the transition from the editorship of Marty and Joe, so it contains a blend of essays that they shepherded to print as well as some that we selected from the Journal's standing call for submissions. We intend for future issues of The Faulkner Journal to include book reviews of Faulkner scholarship and of topics relevant to his work; to this end, we include in these pages a co-authored review of Taylor Hagood's Following Faulkner, which undertakes an assessment of the vast range of scholarly output on Faulkner from Cleanth Brooks onward. It seems fitting to us that the first book to be reviewed in the Journal is one that describes nearly every major reading of Faulkner and in so doing shows the myriad interpretive approaches that this singular author has supported, a scope that the work of the Journal hopes to extend. We will gladly entertain suggestions for books to review, which should be sent to us by email at our university accounts. Doubtless we will be calling upon many of you to help us make informed and informative decisions about the submissions we receive, and we will continue to welcome the ensuing camaraderie and intellectual fellowship.

We are also pleased to welcome Addison Shierry as the Journal's new editorial assistant and to announce that, with this issue, its new publisher is the Johns Hopkins University Press. [End Page v]
