In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • From the Editor

It is with great pleasure that I will be taking over the role as Editor in Chief from Jonathan Burgoyne, who has dedicated much time and energy over the last 6 years to the journal, doing an excellent job of navigating with his team the perilous seas of independent print journals in the increasingly digital media environment. This team has included Isidro Rivera, Emily Francomano, David Arbesú, Mark Johnston and Francisco Gago-Jover, as well as many other colleagues and graduate students who lend their assistance in a variety of ways. Jonathan's tenure has featured exciting Critical Clusters (vol. 44.1 dedicated to the theme of medieval gardens and vol. 45.2 dedicated to Pedro el Cruel), and the first article in La corónica in Portuguese (Resende de Oliveira's article on Alfonso X's poetry in vol. 43.2), and under Jonathan's direction the journal has continued to showcase the outstanding work of junior and senior scholars in the field. I am committed to maintaining La corónica as the premiere North American journal for scholarship on the literatures, languages and cultures of medieval Iberia. I will not be the only new editor to join the ranks of the La corónica: we are very lucky that Montserrat Piera will step into the position of Associate Editor. Montserrat Piera and I share in the vision of La corónica as a journal designed by and for the scholars of medieval and early modern Iberia, and we plan to promote their work and with it, showcase the exciting, diverse and high quality nature of the work being done in the US and abroad. We welcome you to contribute and collaborate.

A final note from the production editors of La corónica, by Christian Supiot, who has worked with Jonathan as Production Editor for the past two years:

Working for Jonathan Burgoyne as production editors on La corónica was a truly enriching experience. His devotion to the journal was evident in his patient and attentive supervision, ensuring over the course of his tenure that the journal retained the highest standard of quality, while always retaining a good sense of humor and humanity that made working with him a real pleasure. The production editors of La corónica are grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him and we are sure that La corónica will miss him as much as we will. We wish the new Editor and Associate Editor the [End Page 1] best for this new chapter.

Finally, the senior editorial staff joins me in expressing our gratitude to Dean David Manderscheid, College of Arts and Sciences, and to Dr. Laura Podalsky, Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The Ohio State University. We also thank Dean Carl W. Lejuez, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Prof. Santa Arias, at the University of Kansas. Without their continued support, this journal could not continue. [End Page 2]
