Thomas Book Award was established by the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies (SECOLAS)to honor the labors and contributions ofAlfred Barnaby Thomas, one of its founders and long-time supporters. He died in December 1990, at the age of ninety-four. The policies of the award process are as follows: The award will be $500.00. The committee will have the opportunity to select two honorable mentions The recipient must be a member of SECOLAS. Co-authored works will be acceptable but anthologies and edited works will not. The theme of the book must be Latin American in nature. The award will be given annually. Committee members will be three in number, always having at least one non-Thomas, non-historian. Books for consideration must be sent to each of the committee members by December 1st of the year prior to the award. Depending on the number received, books may not be returned. Eligible books must have been published in either 2002 or 2003. Books published in 2002 must not have been submitted for consideration in the previous year.
