I am interested in using rich cultural and historical forms to create new and inventive imagery. My work references objects from art history, science, and the world around us. Emily Cheng

Emily Cheng is a painter based in New York City. Cheng's work often sources from both the East and West, reflecting her Chinese ancestry and Western upbringing. She received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and attended the New York Studio School. Her work has been shown in cities throughout the world, including New York, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Manila. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Pollock-Krasner grant and fellowships from the New York Foundation of the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Yaddo. Emily Cheng: Chasing Clouds is a compendium of studies made over ten years, with essays by Johnson Chang and Kevin Powers.
