This is the last Will of me John Henry Cardinal Newman1 of The Oratory Edgbaston. 1 I revoke all my former testamentary dispositions and I appoint The Reverend William Paine Neville, The Reverend Henry Aloysius Bellasis and Mr. Anthony Cecil Hungerford Pollen all of the Oratory aforesaid to be Executors of this my Will. 2 I bequeath to the said William Paine Neville absolutely the copyrights of my publications and all my manuscripts long and short in my own handwriting or in that of others and such rights as I have by law in letters addressed to me by others and in my possession and in letters addressed to others by me whether in my possession or not. 3. I devise and bequeath all my real and leasehold property (if any) whatsoever and wheresoever unto and to the use of the said Anthony Cecil Hungerford Pollen absoultely subject as to leaseholds to the rents and covenants under which I may hold the same. 4. I bequeath all the residue of my personal estate (subject to the payment thereout of my funeral and testamentary expenses and debts) to the said William Paine Neville, Henry Aloysius Bellasis and Anthony Cecil Hungerford Pollen or such of them as shall be living at my death for their or his absolute use. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of June, One thousand eigth hundred and eighty eight _____ John H Card. OF THE WILL OF CARDINAL JOHN HENRY NEWMAN, deceased2

[27 February 1891]

In Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice

BE IT KNOWN, that at the date hereunder written, the last Will and Testament (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed) of John Henry Newman late of The Oratory Edgbaston Birmingham in the county of Warwick, Clerk, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church deceased, who died on the 11th day of August 1890 at The Oratory aforesaid was proved and registered in the Principal Probate Registry of Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice, and that Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to The Reverend William Paine Neville Clerk The Reverend Henry Aloysius Bellasis Clerk and The Reverend Anthony Cecil Hungerford Pollen Clerk The Executors in the said Will they having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same.

And it is hereby certified that an Affidavit in verification of the Account of the said estate has been delivered duly stamped wherein it is shown that the gross value of the said estate amounts to £4,206. 10. 11 and no more.
