Rules to be observed in the probation of our Tyrones, or Youth, commonly called Novices

They will observe the duties prescribed in the rule.

They will say daily the little office B.V.M. & the Rosary, unless reasonably hindered.

They will observe half an hour’s meditation morning & at the evening Oratory

They will have daily a quarter of an hour’s spiritual reading, or if possible half an hour’s.

They will serve a mass & attend in the Sacristy in the morning.

They will visit the Blessed Sacrament at mid-day & at night

They will have the care of an altar.

The will sweep, dust, & keep in order the Novice or Oratory corridor, including

the care of the candles, Book, desk, etc. etc.

Course of the day

Rise at 6 with the Angelus

At 6 ½ meditate half an hour in the Oratory corridor

Serve mass & take part in the attendance in the Sacristy

After breakfast attend to studies till one.

Visit the Blessed Sacrament, make the particular Examen, arrange the altar

At ¼ to 5 or sooner, observe the spiritual reading, in one place, e.g. the Church.

Say Rosary in Church between 7 & 8 p.m.

Read prayers by turns at 8, in the public devotions, & assist at the Sermon;

That is, on Sundays, Wednesdays, Fridays, & occasional days. Other nights study.

Visit the Blessed Sacrament, make Examination of conscience, & to bed at 11.

In the absence of the Father they take the Benedicite from Fr. Robert Tillotson,

who at all times is their immediate supervisor.
