Joycean Postscrapt: Zurich Workshop: 30 July – 6 August, 2017

The annual Workshop will be devoted to "Post" in all its Joycean reverberations, from letters, postcards, telegrams, and the telephone to Shaun the Post and the letter in FW—but for semantic and hygienic reasons excluding phantoms like "postmodernism" and its ilk. Attention will also focus on Joyce's own correspondence and the "Jahnke Bequest" accessible in the Zurich Foundation.

The Zurich workshop is based on carefully researched presentations in a concise and open way so as to stimulate responses and vivid interaction and ample discussions. Strictly no reading of "papers" will be permitted, but there is scope for improvization. Space is limited to twenty participants. If you are willing to take part and agree to follow the guidelines, contact the organizers below. We charge a nominal fee of Swiss Fr. 150 (one hundred and fifty) for one whole intensive week, mainly to cover part of our expenses. A lot is offered in return: social gatherings, usually including a boat trip on the Lake of Zurich and a dinner at midweek.

We will assemble on Sunday, July 30, and officially disperse on Saturday afternoon, August 5. You are free to arrive earlier or leave later so as to make extended use of the Foundation's comprehensive resources. Please do look for accommodation in good time.
