The Review’s new On-going Dialogue begins with this critique of the Ed.D. vs. Ph.D. controversy in doctoral programs in higher education. Carpenter discusses the issues of differential research requirements and how traditional disciplines dominate thinking about the study of higher education. He also makes a case for the field to define its own standards for each degree, if indeed any distinction needs to be made.
