NEWS NOTES The Resource S Information Center for Chinese Studies The Resource and Information Center for Chinese Studies established in 1981, is located in the National Central Library in Taipei, Taiwan. Its purpose is to: investigate and collect materials; edit a bibliographical index; report on research activities; and provide services to Sinological researchers in Taiwan and abroad, such as purchasing or copying materials published in Taiwan. Hie Center is composed of two divisions: Materials, and Liason. The Center is run by an Advisory Committee consisting of scholars from Academia Sinica, Taiwan University, the Palace Museum, and the Kuomintang Historical Commission. The Director of the National Central Library, Mr. C.K. Wang also serves as the Director of the Center. The Center publishes a quarterly journal, Newsletter for Research in Chinese Studies ^ T h e abn of the journal is to report news concerning research, teaching, and scholarly activities in the field of Chinese studies in Taiwan. The first four issues were published in 1982. Each issue contains bibliographical and other articles, interviews with scholars, lists of conferences and meetings, introductions to research institutions and graduate schools, announcements of newly published reference tools and essay collections, lists of graduate student dissertations and of current scholarly projects, and selected bibliographies of academic journal articles from Taiwan. Because the goal of the newsletter is to establish a bridge between scholars in Taiwan and to report their research activities to the world, the journal is distributed free of charge to all interested parties. Approximately 3,300 copies of each issue are currently being published. Ch'ien-lung Palace Memorials Published The Palace Museum in Taiwan has begun publication of the Palace Memorials of the Ch’ien-lung Reign (^ c f z ^ ^ ). Volume 1 (covering 1736/2nd month to 1752/lst month) and Volume 2 (covering 1752/lst-6th months) are now available; the entire set will run to 60 volumes. The current price per volume is NT$900.00. The journal will carry articles on the theoretic­ al aspects of socio-economic history as well as on specialized empirical 112 research in Chinese socio-economic history of all periods. The subjects will include economic structure, productive forces and relations of production, regional and sectional economies, national minority economies, economic systems, and economic thought. Compilations of historical source materials, trends in research in this field inside and outside China, and book reviews will also be included. A special section will be devoted to works or summaries of works by foreign scholars. The journal will be issued quarterly, each issue consisting of about 150,000 words. Three issues will appear in 1982, and four each year there­ after. The editorial board is located at Xiamen University in Fujian province.
