This brief history of Mexican computing focuses explores the computing research and development work that occurred in the 1950s–1990s and discusses how enduring wealth inequities compared with the US and an often unstable local economy affected Mexico’s technological advances. The international treaty signed in the 1990s boosted the Mexican computer industry, although this relatively recent event has still left Mexico playing catch up.
