Abstract

The work of Jacob Bronowski is at the center of the two-cultures debate regarding the roles of science and the humanities; and this debate, in turn, is at the center of his work and thought. The author discusses Bronowski’s contributions and then suggests adding a third culture – the social sciences – and a half-culture – psychoanalysis, which lies on the border of science and the humanities. He concludes that, in any discussion of the three and a half cultures, Bronowski will continue to serve as an inspiration.
