Abstract

Three of Cubism’s derivatives—Futurism, Precisionism, Suprematism—played important roles in shaping the avant-garde cinema of the 1920s. Overshadowed by Dada and Surrealism, however, these Cubistrooted movements have rarely been discussed from this perspective. In this article, thevaried, modernistic qualities and concerns of Futurism, Precisionism and Suprematism are discussed and their likely influences on the development of the avant-garde cinema are examined.
