Liliana Ursu, internationally acclaimed Romanian poet, was born in Sibiu, Romania. Ursu has published more than eighteen books in Romanian. She lives in Bucharest, teaching courses in poetry and creative writing, producing occasional radio programs for Romanian National Radio, and writing. She has received two Fulbright grants. Her first book in English, The Sky Behind the Forest (Bloodaxe Books), translated by Ursu, Adam Sorkin, and Tess Gallagher, became a British Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation and was shortlisted for Oxford’s Weidenfeld Prize. Other English translations followed: Goldsmith Market and Lightwall from Zephyr Press, both translated by Sean Cotter; and A Path to the Sea from Pleasure Boat Studio, translated by Tess Gallagher and Adam Sorkin.
Emily Grosholz teaches philosophy at Penn State and is an advisory editor for the Hudson Review. Her translation of Yves Bonnefoy’s Début et fin de la neige was published by Bucknell University Press. Tessellations Publishing published a collection of her mathematical poems, Proportions of the Heart, with mathematical art by Robert Fathauer, and Accents Publishing published a book of poems, Childhood, with drawings by Lucy Vines, which supports an international organization for children.
Adam J. Sorkin is a prize-winning translator of contemporary Romanian literature. He has published fifty books of translation, most recently A Sharp Double-Edged Luxury Object by Rodica Draghinescu (translated with Antuza Genescu) and Gold and Ivy/Aur şi iederă by George Vulturescu (with Olimpia Iacob).
