Abstract

The verbal and visual cues that divide the Morte Darthur into sections in the Winchester Manuscript cause listeners and readers to interpret the structure of the narrative differently. Recognizing the conflict between aural and visual reception of the text can help resolve the debate over the manuscript’s organization.
