W.L.A. ANNOUNCEMENTS Plans for the Second Annual Meeting of the Western Literature Association have not been completed. However, the complete pro gram should be available for the Summer issue of Western American Literature. The meeting will be a joint meeting with the Rocky Mountain Modem Language Association hosted, this year, by the University of New Mexico. All activities for both groups will be held at the Sheraton-Western Motor Hotel, 13400 Central Southeast, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87112. Western Literature Association meetings will be held on Thursday, October 12th, beginning at noon. The RM-MLA activities will be on Friday and Saturday, with the Western Americana-Folklore section meeting at 10:00 Saturday morning. Some plans are definite. Luncheon speaker Friday noon will be Professor Donald Greene, who will be moving this year from the University of California at Riverside to the University of Wisconsin. His topic will be “Western Canadian Literature: Some Reflections.” Professor Greene is a Canadian, has taught at the University of Toronto and has long had an interest in Canadian Western litera ture. There will be a symposium based on the theme of different critical approaches to Western American literature. Members of the symposium will be Max Westbrook of the University of Texas, Don D. Walker of the University of Utah, John R. Milton of the Uni versity of South Dakota, and James K. Folsom of Yale University. Two section meetings will follow the symposium: “Western Ameri can Prose (Narrative and Fiction)” and “Western American Poetry and Drama.”« « « « « Inadvertantly, there were errors of omission in the Directory of the Western Literature Association. First to come to our attention was: NEW MEXICO: George Arms, Department of English, The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106. Next to come to our attention was that the membership from the state of Oregon had been dropped. O r e g o n Onstad, Preston E. Department of English, University of Ore gon, Corvallis, Oregon 97331. Woodall, Marian Department of English, Wilamette Univer sity, Salem, Oregon. Our apologies to those left off the Directory. We would appre ciate it if members would notify us of any discrepancies in the Directory. * # « « « New association member Professor James W. Lee of North Texas State University at Denton, Texas, is General Editor of a new scholarly series of studies on Southwestern writers being published by the Steck-Vaughn Company of Austin, Texas. These 45-page pamphlets (see advertisement) should be helpful to all members. Professor Lee also informs us of another publication of interest to Western scholars. A new quarterly journal is being started at North Texas State University. It will be called Studies in the Novel, and the editorial board is being selected. Manuscripts are invited.
