This article explores what kind of testimonial acts are taking place in Simone de Beauvoir's four volumes of autobiography. It traces a three-fold testimonial cycle in these texts, arguing that in her engagement with testimony, Beauvoir privileges the imperative to be present and to bear witness for the Other in the real.
