Abstract

In l'Epuisement du soleil and l'Espace du diamant, science-fiction author Rochon imagines the Asven people on the threshold of a new era in their history. This essay examines her portryal of the other as an agent for personal and societal change, and suggests the pertinence of Rochon's analysis of alterity to the increasingly heterogeneous context of fin-de-siècle Quebec.
