Editors' Note
With this double issue, Legacy marks the completion of twenty years. In that time, the journal has grown from a newsletter begun by three graduate students at the University of Massachusetts—Martha Ackmann, Karen Dandurand, and Joanne Dobson—to become the premier journal on American women writers published today. We thank our readers for their loyalty over this time and especially for their patience with recent publication delays. We also extend our gratitude to the many scholars who have served as Consultants and Editorial Board Members over the last twenty years. Their expertise has been invaluable to the success of the journal.
In volume 10, number 2, we published an index that covered Legacy 's first ten years, and the next issue, volume 21, number 1, will include an index for the journal's second decade. We look forward to the next twenty years, during which we are confident that Legacy will continue to play a central role in the study of American women's writing.
