194 New Israeli Catalog SHOFAR Spring 1998 Vol. 16, No.3 News and Information Computer Networking News The Israeli inter-university library network has a new union catalog: ULI (Union List-Israel). ULI replaces the old ULM (Union List of Monographs). It is maintained with the same ALEPH-3 software as the rest of the Israeli university network and is an integral part of it. To access ULI, enter BASE ULI via any of the Israeli university library ALEPH systems. Each item at each library is an independent brief record. ULI in effect simulates a virtual union catalog. It can be searched by author, title, or keyword. ULI contains records in Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, and Cyrillic scripts, using standard ALEPH procedures. History of Jewish Women in America Phyllis Holman Weisbard has compiled and mounted on the web an "Annotated Bibliography and Guide to Archival Resources on the History of Jewish Women in America." The bibliography covers historical scholarship from 1970 to the present on American Jewish women published in journals, anthologies, and monographs as well as descriptions of collections of memoirs, oral histories, and creative writings. The archival resources section is a preliminary list ofsignificant repositories for researching American Jewish women's history, with information on published guides, the location ofrecords ofnational offices of Jewish women's organizations, and selected examples of collections of personal papers and oral histories. Feinstein Center for American Jewish History The Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University is working on an on-line guide to resources in American Jewish History. News and Information Israel University Libraries Grant 195 The Israel Ministry of Science has awarded the Israel University Libraries Network a research grant to study the probleni of Hebrew bibliographic data on the Internet, convert several bibliographic databases ofnational interest to World Wide Web format, I and make them accessible to the general public. The databases included in this project are: the Index to Articles in Jewish!Studies ("RAMBI") (83,000 records); the Israel Union List ofSerials (95,000 records); and the general Union List of Israeli University Libraries (3,200,000 records). This project will be based on the ALEPH-500 software which will be enhanced to the project's specifications. The time frame for this project i~ one year, but some of the results and data bases should be accessible within half a ye~r. Other faculty, members include Professor Harold Troper , who is doing work on modern Syrian Jewry and who specializes in issues of immigration, ethilicity, racism, etc., and Professor Roger Simon , who is looking at history and memory and who has an interest in the Holocaust. Yad Vashem The International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem runs a Summer and Winter program for educators. Participants attend lectures given by top experts in the 198 SHOFAR Spring 1998 yo!. 16, No.3 field of Shoah research and education from various Israeli universities. The Resource Center at Yad Vashem contains films, tapes, and curricula for educators, as well as over 100,000 books, 60,000,000 pages of documents, and over 70,000 photographs. The Seminar convenes five days a week and includes several field trips. Evening sessions allow time for discussion. Tuition is $700 (U.S.) plus a $50 registration fee. This includes the cost of all course materials, but does not include airfare, accommodations, meals, or health insurance.
