Announcements Conseil International D'Études Francophones (CIEF) The Conseil International D'Études Francophones will hold its next international conference in Guadeloupe, from 10 to 17 May 1997. The CIEF welcomes proposals to read papers in French, or to organize sessions relating to all French-speaking areas worldwide (including France), and in all disciplines. The National Foreign Language Center (NFLC) The NFLC has created an annual prize in honor of Ronald Walton, former acting director of the NFLC. The A. Ronald Walton Prize will be awarded each year to an institution or organization that has made a significant and innovative contribution to the learning of languages other than English through programmatic or systemic change. Academic institutions, programs in government, the private sector, the heritage language community, and international organizations will be considered eligible for the award.
