Letter from the Editor

I write this entering my fifth year as editor of the Journal of Nietzsche Studies. To mark the occasion, I wish to express my gratitude to all those who make possible this enterprise and provide readers with some insight into what it takes to produce each issue that makes its way to the inbox. These include editorial assistants Elvira Basevich and Adele Sarli, assistant editor Anthony Jensen, our editorial review board, and the journal staff at Penn State University Press, especially Julie Shippee and Patty Mitchell. Hunter College continues to provide significant financial support to sustain the journal, and I am grateful for the support of chairpersons Laura Keating and Frank Kirkland and provost Vita Rabinowitz.

We receive submissions on a weekly basis. Each one is read carefully by staff in the New York editorial office. Editorial assistants acknowledge submissions and handle administrative tasks relating to manuscript tracking. We aim to reach decisions about most manuscripts within eight weeks from the time of submission. Lately, we have consistently met this standard. We are fortunate to have a pool of expert manuscript reviewers, who often provide authors with insightful guidance for improving their work. The journal's acceptance rate continues to hover at roughly 10 percent. The single most important contribution you can make to the journal is steering high-quality submissions our way.

Prepublication materials are prepared and posted on the journal's Web site. Over the years, the production process has improved significantly as our publisher, Penn State University Press, has developed its journal list and hired professional staff. In 2011, we will begin to use manuscript tracking software that should further improve our operations and enhance our communications with authors and reviewers.

The new Web site is now fully functional, and we are seeing a good deal of traffic. We have already expanded features to include previews of forthcoming issues. We welcome your comments and suggestions for further development.
