The 1967 meeting of the Comediantes The annual luncheon of the Comediantes , in connection with the meeting of Spanish Group 3, was held at Stouffer's Restaurant, 24 West Madison Street, Chicago, Thursday, 28 December 1967. There were 36 present. After the luncheon, Chairman Silverman conducted a brief business meeting . Professor Gregg gave the treasurer 's report for the Bulletin of the Comediantes, which included a net surplus for 1967 of $320.00, a total paid membership (including libraries) of 197, estimated expenditures for 1968 of $600.00, but an anticipated surplus. Professor Tyler, acting for Chairman Gerald E. Wade of the Advisory and Nominating Committee, presented the names of Professor Arthur M. Fox for secretary of Spanish Group 3 for 1969 and of Professor Sidney F. Wexler as the new member of the advisory and Nominating Committee, for the period 1969-1973. The nominations were accepted as presented. Professor Silverman discussed the possibility of having a seminar conference in addition to the regular meeting of Spanish Group 3, in view of the increasing size of the Group. The seminar would concern itself with a special topic, but not one that was too limited in scope or interest, and would be held at an hour different from that of Spanish Group 3. It would appear in the official program as a Conference and be under the direction of the Group officers. Professor Ebersole has already indicated his willingness to serve as seminar leader and if any other comediante has any ideas in this connection that he would like to share, he is invited to send them to the chairman or secretary. Professor McCready announced that the Bulletin is in need of contributors. Professor Parker commented on the Research Committee's publication, the critical and annotated bibliography of Lope de Vega studies, stating that the work has ben a success both financially and in reviews. Professor Fox, chairman of the Research Committee, announced that the deadline for submission of the material on the proposed Calderón bibliography has been extended from 31 December 1967 to 30 April 1968. The meeting of Spanish Group 3 was held beginning at 3:00 p.m., in the Waldorf Room of the Conrad Hilton Hotel. It is estimated that between 187 and 200 people were in attendance at one time or another during the reading of the three scheduled papers by Professors Alberto Porqueras Mayo, Carroll B. Johnson, and William M. Whitby, respectively. The secretary for 1968 is Professor Hannah E. Bergman and the chairman, the undersigned. On Friday, 29 December, the new chairman and the new secretary attended a meeting of group chairmen and secretaries called by the Executive Secretary of the Association, John Hurt Fisher, for an informal discussion of a proposal of having Scholars' Conferences at a time separate from the MLA annual meeting, but under the auspices of the existing MLA Groups, and held at a "host institution" during the year. Details of this proposal are set forth on page 13, number 6, of PMLA, volume LXXXII (1967). If any member of the Comediantes has any views on this proposal that he would like to set forth, the new chairman will be pleased to entertain them. Walteb Poesse, Secretary 10 ...
