Abstract

Leicester Hemingway, Ernest's only brother, wrote My Brother in 1962, but almost a decade before he published an autobiographical novel, The Sound of the Trumpet. This work offers an interesting vantage point for students of biography. Readers not only see how autobiography supplements and confirms what is known about Ernest Hemingway, but how the autobiographical perspective offers Leicester the authorial distance and confidence to reveal what he cannot say in a biography.
