274 From the editor: Starting with our next issue, the Journal will be published by Sage Publications, Inc., of Thousand Oaks, California. Sage is an internationally renowned publisher of scholarly books and over 100 interdisciplinary journals. It is a full-service company that will handle publishing, distribution, marketing, subscriptions, and sales of back issues and related items. We are delighted to form this partnership with Sage. We are hopeful that the company's reputation for editorial excellence and innovative marketing will directly benefit our subscribers and help ensure the long-term viability of the Journal. All current subscriptions will continue with no interruption through the transition to Sage. This marks my last issue as editor of the Journal. Since the inception of the Journal with our first conference proceedings in the summer of 1990,1 have tried to adhere to a few basic tenets: editorial integrity; respect for the reader; exploration of issues and solutions that genuinely benefit the underserved. To the extent that the Journal reflects these guiding principles, I regard our first five years as a success. 1 leave the editor's chair to enroll in the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I do so with mixed feelings, but with gratitude for the hard work of the National Editorial Board, Steering Committee, peer reviewers, and my colleagues at the Institute on Health Care for the Poor and Underserved, and for the support of our subscribers, without whom our publication would have remained a distant dream. —Kirk A. Johnson ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF PEER REVIEWERS The Institute on Health Care for the Poor and Underserved gratefully acknowledges the invaluable assistance of the scholars and practitioners who joined members of the Editorial Board to review manuscripts for Volume Five.
