Abstract

The concept of modernization may be explored via the distinction between the modern and the primitive, the distinction between industrial and preindustrial societies, the comparison of early modernization with late modernization, the comparison of successful and unsuccessful late modernization, and the difference between the modern and the postmodern. Theoretically, it may be explored via neo-evolutionist concepts or neo-Marxist dependency approaches. These modes of exploration relate to Greece, as does the question of Eurocentrism, which characterizes the overall discussion of modernization.
