Abstract
This brief essay introduces Munson's poetry and also describes the importance of writing in the lives of chronically ill persons. Munson's own chronic illness allows her to experience and to articulate the personal, cultural, artistic, and political jailbreak that writing provides for the chronically ill. She offers a view from inside the texts Pennebaker and others study.
