The Seoul International Computer Music Festival 2005

The 2005 Seoul International Computer Music Festival (SICMF) will be held 10–13 November 2005 at the Jayu Theater in the Seoul Arts Center. The SICMF has been held annually since 1993, and includes tape music, live electroacoustic music, and audiovisual media art in the program. The conference is hosted by the Korean Electro-Acoustic Music Society. For additional information on the conference, visit www .computermusic.or.kr/main_en/.

Brazilian Symposium on Computer Music

The Tenth Brazilian Symposium on Computer Music will be held in Poços de Caldas, in the state of Minas Gerais, 3–5 October 2005. Topics include acoustics, diffusion, evolutionary music, computer-aided musicology, music information retrieval, psychoacoustics and cognitive modeling, interactive systems, Internet and Web applications, and synthesis.

The Brazilian Symposia are organized by Núcleo Brasileiro de Pesquisa em Computação e Música (NUCOM), the computer music branch of the Brazilian Computing Society, and will be hosted by the Institute of Computing of the Catholic University of Minas Gerais. More information on the symposium is available at www.cefala.org/sbcm2005/english/ index.html.

International Conference Series of the Electroacoustic Music Studies

The International Conference Series of the Electroacoustic Music Studies (EMS '05) will be held 19–22 October 2005 in Montréal, Canada. This year's theme is "sound in multimedia contexts."

The EMS conference is organized every two years through the initiative of the Electroacoustic Music Studies Network, an international team that aims to encourage reflection on the better understanding of electroacoustic music and its genesis, appearance, and development over the span of a century. The organizers are all engaged in the key areas of debate and actively seek the development of solutions.

From the advent of the first electric instruments, the phonograph, radio, telephone, and subsequent electronic and digital inventions, musicians have imagined a wide variety of approaches to technologies relevant to the art of sound. In recent years, there seems to have been a proliferation of studies relating to music incorporating these technologies. However, the investigation of such a varied musical repertoire raises a number of issues that the EMS conferences wish to examine. The themes of the conference therefore emphasize questions of resources, discourse, and analytical tools relevant to electroacoustic musics.

Further information on the conference can be found at www.sun.rhbnc .ac.uk/Music/Conferences/05-a-ems .html.

This year's theme is "Hybrid—Living in Paradox." Details about the festival can be found at www.aec.at/en/festival/index.asp? nocache=271769.

Symposium on Computer Music Modeling and Retrieval

The third annual Symposium on Computer Music Modeling and Retrieval, CMMR 2005—PLAY, will be held 26–28 September 2005 in Pisa, Italy. The field of computer music is interdisciplinary by nature and closely related to a number of computer science and engineering areas such as information retrieval, programming, human computer interaction, digital libraries, hypermedia, artificial intelligence, acoustics, and signal processing. In this year's CMMR, entitled PLAY, the emphasis will be on human interaction in music. Papers related to sound modeling, real-time interaction, interactive music, perception, and cognition will be emphasized together with the usual themes related to the traditional topics of the CMMR conference.
