Flannery's article situates Mrs. Luna of The Bostonians in a number of contexts, most notably the novel's critical reception, the relationship between sibling love and queer subjectivity in contemporary theory and narratives of the lost, returned and over-embodied sibling in US culture. It argues that sibling love, jealousy and insight are utterly crucial to James's writing and protection of lesbian desire.
