In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

291 What follows is a bibliography of Philip Roth-related texts published during 2008, including primary works by and interviews with Roth, critical works (books, book chapters, and journal essays), book reviews and media profiles, doctoral dissertations, and adaptations of Roth’s fiction. Beginning with this annual bibliography, all listings will reflect the format as defined in the third edition of the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (2008). With the exception of the interview listings, all sources are arranged in alphabetical order according to the author’s last name. Only the original American editions of Roth’s works are listed below. Of the book reviews, only substantive pieces appearing in major English-language publications are included. All critical sources not published in English are listed under the section “Criticism in Foreign Languages.” With any reviews or interviews that are published by more than one newspaper (e.g., those written by freelance journalists or provided through such outlets as the Associated Press), only the most substantive or complete version is included. In the case of reprinted works, all original publication information is listed along with its more current bibliographic information. For all newspaper-related entries, only the initial page numbers (when available) are included. Researchers can find complete newspaper reviews and profiles through simple searches of periodical databases (such as Nexis and Access World News) and online newspaper archives, and in most cases these resources provide no complete page information that corresponds with the hardcopy. When hard-copy information is not available for newspaper entries, Web-based bibliographic information is provided. Since many magazines and journals have not yet gone the way of most newspapers—except in the case of PDF reproduction, where an exact digital “photograph” of the original hardcopy is made available—complete page information for these sources are included in the bibliographic update, except in the case of publications such as Slate and Nextbook, solely online magazines that include Annual Bibliography of Philip Roth Criticism and Resources—2008 Compiled by Derek Parker Royal 292 Philip Roth Studies Fall 2009 no page information. Of blogs, only those containing significant discussion or analysis—as found on Blog Critics Magazine as well as those maintained by such newspapers as The New York Times, The Oregonian, The Guardian, and New York magazine—are listed in the annual bibliography.
